Finding housing without getting it wrong

Visit before signing, read the lease and check what's included. With the Settle In service, Km Zero suggests housing and can go to viewings with you.

Casablanca housing: pitfalls to avoid

Finding Casablanca housing from abroad isn't always easy. Here are the most common mistakes, and how to avoid them.

Signing without visiting

Photos don't show everything: noise, damp, the condition of appliances, the neighbours. Visit yourself or have someone you trust visit before making any payment.

Forgetting costs on top of the rent

Deposit, agency fees, service charges, water, electricity and internet are often added to the rent. Ask for the details in writing before committing.

An incomplete contract

Insist on a written lease stating the rent, the length, the deposit and the condition of the property. Have the signatures legalised: you'll need this document for your formalities.

Choosing the neighbourhood too quickly

Think about the daily journey to work or school, transport and nearby shops. A lower rent can cost a lot in travel time.

Paying before getting the keys

Never pay the full deposit or rent remotely without a contract or a visit. Prefer traceable payments and keep proof of every payment.

Skipping the inventory

When you move in, record the condition of the property and appliances in writing and with photos. This document protects your deposit when you leave.

Forgetting temporary accommodation

If you haven't found anything yet, plan a hotel or short-term rental for the first weeks. You'll visit on the spot, without pressure, before committing.

Relying only on listings

A listing that looks too good or a very low price sometimes hides a scam. Be wary of owners who refuse a visit or ask for urgent payment.

Ignoring the neighbourhood

Walk around the area at different times of day: noise, lighting in the evening, shops and safety. A nice home in a neighbourhood that doesn't suit you is still a poor choice.

Going it alone

With the Settle In service, Km Zero suggests verified homes, goes to viewings with you and reads through the contract with you. You save time and avoid unpleasant surprises.
