Morocco visa: good habits before you leave

Whatever your nationality, a few simple precautions help you avoid unpleasant surprises when applying for your Morocco visa or crossing the border.

Passport and documents ready for a Morocco visa application

Check the official source

Rules change: always check the official website of the Kingdom of Morocco for the conditions that apply to your nationality. Beware of intermediary sites that charge extra fees.

Check your passport

Check its expiry date well before departure and make sure it still has blank pages. A passport too close to expiry can cause problems at boarding.

Prepare your supporting documents

Keep your accommodation booking, your return or onward ticket and, if you're coming to study or work, the documents related to your plans close at hand. Digital copies are useful.

Allow enough time

Apply well before your travel date. If in doubt, contact the Moroccan consulate in your country of residence.

Keep proof of your application

Keep the application number, the confirmation email and the document you receive. Print it if possible: you may be asked for it at boarding or on arrival.

Think about your stay

If you're coming to settle or study, the visa or entry authorisation isn't always enough. A residence card may be needed afterwards: find out about the procedures and timescales as soon as you arrive.

Travel with an arrival plan

Give a precise address for your stay and keep your accommodation's details. At the airport, an organised welcome lets you go through formalities calmly, without worrying about the journey.

If refused or unsure

Don't book a non-refundable ticket before you have an answer. If refused or in a special situation, contact the Moroccan consulate directly, as it is the only body able to answer you.

After arrival

Once there, keep your passport and entry documents somewhere safe, with a copy on your phone. You'll need them for the bank, your accommodation or a possible extension of stay.

Keep the consulate's number

Note the phone number and address of your country's embassy or consulate in Morocco. If you lose your passport or face an administrative problem, you'll need to contact them quickly.
